100 years of GF Smith Paper/ inspiration

From playing with 2d triangular shapes, i decided to play around with 3d triangles. I would prefer this to the 2d style, however when looking at the 2d shapes, i came up with the idea of placing the shapes in such a way, that i create the number "100". This has a great style especially with the words within the triangle.

Again i have developed the use or triangles within my poster design. I have simply cut out the triangles on a blacked board and then placed a huge triangle at the side with the lettering cut in the middle. I came up with the idea of placing the triangle in a different position to the one above, so i place the text in a straight way but the triangle is positioned in a slant.

One thing i really liked is when i came to cutting out the images i placed one of the lettering facing upwards, and thought it could work to the poster. I will try this idea later on, to see if it could be the one i will consider.

These are perfect examples of paper designs which are featured in a poster. I have also placed a random design which shows triangles in a ball shape, which springs of a shadow to the wall. This has given me some ideas for the poster design. I particularly like the idea of adding coloured paper to the desing, e.i. the bottom designs.

Final outcome.

The final outcome is an effective one, which can be placed on the floor or hung up with string, either away i feel it will show some effect because of its simplistic approach and the way the strips have all been connected. This design shows different forms of repetition. What i like about the final outcome is the use of curves. This design slightly confuses the mind when trying to count how many strips are actually there. This makes it difficult because of the connection.

One thing which has helped me keep this design together are the slits in the middle of each strip. They allowed me to create a unique shape and to keep the stability i needed.

The design kind of reminds me of a womens ear-ring or a chandelier.

simplistic design

I particularly like the 3rd picture, which highlights its simplistic beauty. I will expand this for the final piece. I have used slits to place the strips in and out of the paper with another slit to slot the pieces together. I like how curves are formed with just a bending technique.

Final design which will be hung in the atrium and a small draft Marquette shown at the bootom.

This is the final design which will be hung in the atrium. Here, i have hung the design on a thin strip of tape (because i had no string). Having the design hung up will give me an idea of how it will look. I liked the idea of having the design hung rather than having it layed. There will be a chance to see the design from different angles.

The bottom piece shows a past design which i was going to consider for the final design but decided not to use it because i thought there was no specific shape. It also looks slightly tacky because of how many strips where used.

paper design i will be considering for the final. small and large Marquette.

With the prototype, i came up with a larger sized design. This time i recognized the width of the design looks too wide, and the height of the strips is too short. But i still managed to duplicate the design.

over complicated designs to simple designs

Here, i gave a go with a more of a simple design with the strips. I was contemplating whether or not to use this prototype as the main design (or maybe build a larger design) like this.

over complicated designs to simple designs

These are drafts of the "so called" final design, but decided not to use it. Reason being is because of how much strips i have used. I thought it looked too complicated, and too much to Analise. I came up with a few strip designs, some of which having lots of strips, and some having less.

over complicated designs to simple designs

Even though over complicated designs such as these hadn't worked for me, i gave a go with trying a much, much more over complicated design, with having around 6 strips. I wanted to see what kind or shape i'd be able to create with having soo many strips.

continuation for paper designs 5.repetition

When we look at repetition it's usually set to duplicated every time. I want to be able to create a repeating form which is not duplicated every time. I will show forms of repetition through is randomness of strips which is set to go in different directions.

more ideas

Here, i used the same design on the previous slide, but this time playing around with opposites. E.I. having words cut out on the page and the following words place near it, so it shows a continuation.

I like the idea of having the cut of letters place at a slant, do give it a totally different outcome, instead of it being just straight.

quick idea

These are quick ideas made for the GF Smith paper poster project. I had a fascination with playing around with the shape of a triangle and going further to make it work as a poster for GF Smith paper. I simply cut out works in the paper and played with the lettering. Having triangles scored into the paper gives it a robotic/solid shape.

I started off with a simple triangle shape sketch on paper and scored into the marks. I then started to bend into the paper to make the triangle shapes be seen.
